Denis mentioned that search engines like Google can index the newsgroup and mailing list archives, which is fantastic. There's a lot of great content in there -- and now people will be able to find it quickly and easily.
I think that is a good news to all.
However, it would be better if all the mailling list and news archives are moved to a single subdomain like lists.eclipse.org instead of dev.eclipse.org, which hosts the CVS, documentation, etc. The separation allows better searching to be performed by the users by limiting the search to the subdomain and not clutter with additional results from CVS especially.
In google, then I can do "mysearch site:lists.eclipse.org" just for the content from the archive.
Sounds like a good idea. I suggest opening an RFE on bugzilla in the Community/MailingLists product. https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs
